International scientific conference - "Biodiversity of agricultural plants and animals, their Conservation and Perspectives

   387000246 692055659623588 6132180273527218926 n  On October 4-6 of this year, the international scientific conference International scientific conference - "Biodiversity of agricultural plants and animals, their Conservation and Perspectives was held in the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia with the support of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (MG-ISE-23-923).

     The international organizing committee of the conference was represented by scientists from 9 countries (Georgia, France, Latvia, Ukraine, Italy, Romania, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovakia), and the international scientific committee - from 5 countries (Georgia, France, Latvia, Ukraine, Romania,)  

   Among the guests invited to the conference were the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Academician Roin Metreveli, the Academician-Secretary of the Department of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Academician Avtandil Korakhashvili, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Yuri Nozadze, the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Deputy, Mr. Apolon Kakabadze, Deputy Head of the Higher Education and Science Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Zaza Maruashvili, Chief of Staff of the Agrarian Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Iveri Akhalbedashvili, Director of the Scientific Research Center of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Academician Levan Ujmajuridze, head of the Agricultural Development Center of the Patriarchate of Georgia, Mr. Bakur Gulua, as well as foreign and Georgian scientists.386657164 692055572956930 8192472643637209278 n

On October 4, the conference was opened by the president of the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Academician Givi Japaridze, who addressed the audience with a welcome speech. He spoke about the relevance and importance of the topic of the conference. He noted that today the preservation of biodiversity in general, as well as the biodiversity of agricultural plants and animals, which contributes to the sustainability of any country's agricultural systems, food sovereignty, health protection of the local population, raw material supply, and income growth, is of great importance throughout the world. Then Mr. Givi Japaridze gave a speech to greet the Georgian and foreign guests. The participants of the conference were welcomed and wished success in the work of the conference by Mr. Roin Metreveli, Yuri Nozadze, Zaza Maruashvili, Iveri Akhalbedashvili, Levan Ujmajuridze, from foreign guests: former president of the French Academy of Agriculture, Professor Michel Tibier, President of the Latvian Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Professor Baiba Rivza, Director of Suchava Genbank, Dr. Silvia Strajeru, Rumania, Head of the Selection-Genetics Laboratory of the Scientific-Research Institute of Animal Biology of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Professor, Elizaveta Fodorovich.

DSC01063 After the greetings, a plenary session was held in accordance with the work program of the conference, at which the following speakers came out with reports: Professor Michel Tibier. The topic of his report was: "Special emphasis on French cattle breeds in danger of extinction"; Professor Baiba Rivza addressed the audience with a report: "Exploring Biodiversity and Sustainable Solutions: Integrating Microbial Innovations in Agricultural Crop Cultivation in Latvia"; Academician Guram Aleksidze's report was about "biodiversity of agricultural crops in Georgia"; Professor Elizaveta Fedorovich spoke on the topic: "Methodological aspects in the methodology of conservation of genetic resources of agricultural animals in Ukraine", and academician Lasha Dolidze presented a report on the topic: "Biodiversity of forest ecosystems of Georgia". DSC01071

Conference participants continued working in sections. The work was carried out in 2 sections. Section I - Biodiversity of Agricultural Plants was headed by Academician Gogola Margvelashvili, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Agronomic Sciences of the Academy, Section II - Biodiversity of Agricultural Animals was chaired Academician Tengiz Kurashvili, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences of the Academy. After the work of the sections, a summary discussion was held, and the heads of the Scientific Sessions presented to the audience the results of the scientific reports and discussions.

It was noted that each report presented at the sections attracted great interest from the attending public and dealt with highly problematic issues. Among the presented reports, the work of the representative of the Romanian delegation, Andra-Sabina Nikulau-Valeanu, who presented it as a poster, attracted attention. Equally important was the report of the representative of the Ukrainian delegation, professor Tatiana Suprovych, which was about the biodiversity of the cow BOLA-DRB3 gene. DSC01200

     After the summary discussion, a gala dinner was held for foreign guests in "Aphazeti" restaurant.

  On October 5, the sections continued to work from 10 o'clock in the morning. After the work, a summary discussion was held. It was noted that for a total of 2 days, 17 reports were heard in Section I - Biodiversity of Agricultural Plants, and 12 reports were heard in Section II - Biodiversity of Agricultural Animals. After that, the participants of the conference received a declaration, which clearly presented the purpose of the conference and the issues, the solution of which will contribute to the preservation of biodiversity of agricultural plants and animals.

   The work of the conference was summarized and the conference was closed by the president of the Academy, Academician Givi Japaridze. He once again thanked each participant for participating in the work of the conference and wished success in further scientific activities.

 A thematic excursion was organized for the foreign guests to the trial-demonstration base of the perennial crops of Jighaura of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. The guests were welcomed by the director of the scientific research center, academician Levan Ujmajuridze and scientific staff of the research center.

   Academician L. Ujmajuridze told the guests about the diversity of Georgian grape varieties. The special importance of vines and their place in the life of a Georgian man. He noted that the number of Georgian grape varieties exceeds 500. Then the guests participated in the vintage. The hosts showed the foreign guests the church building process. Each of them had the opportunity to make this nugget themselves. In addition to grapes, the guests tasted fruits grown on the base of Jighaura and Georgian wines.

      On October 7, an excursion was organized for the foreign guests of the conference to the Bodbi nunnery and the Kvareli wine tunnel, sponsored by the Khareba company, which has been supporting the international events held by the Academy for years. Visitors were guided through the Kvareli tunnel by a guide who told them in detail about the history of its creation and about the current owner of the tunnel, the company "Khareb". After viewing the tunnel, the guests witnessed the opening ceremony of the pitcher. They tasted Kvevari wine and were presented with clay vials. In the outer area of the wine tunnel, visitors got to know the process of baking Shoti bread and baked bread in the bakery. Churches were also brought out, after which "Khareb" company gave them a festive dinner.  

It should be noted that about 200 scientists-researchers directly participated in the work of the conference, a collection of scientific works was printed, in which 100 scientific articles were covered. Souvenir bags, pens, notebooks, collections of scientific works and certificates were given to the participants. All three days of the conference were covered by Saperavi TV.

Within the framework of the conference, memorandums of mutual cooperation were signed with the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of Latvia and St. Kamianets-Podolsk State Educational University.
