Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences is Celebrating its 60-year Anniversary

Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences was founded on December 12, 1957 and its first President was Micheil Sabashvili. Currently, the Academy comprises 14 Real Members of the Academy and 8 Member Correspondents.

On December 12, 2017, in the Conference Hall of Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, a Ceremonial Meeting Academy 60 1dedicated to 60-year Anniversary of the Academy was held. Besides the Members of the Academy, the Meeting attended the official representatives of Georgian Government, Giorgi Tkemaladze, the representative of Tbilisi Municipality, Giorgi Gvazava, the Head of Forestry Department at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, representatives of higher education institutions, scientific research centers and other  invited guests. Also, the delegates arrived from different regions of Georgia, Ajara, Meskheti, Kartli, Imereti, and Kakheti.

 The Meeting was opened by the President of the Academy, Academician Guram Aleksidze. He welcomed the guests and read out the greetings and congratulations sent by the following persons and organizations:

The President of GAAS, Academician Guram Aleksidze rendered a long and detailed account on the history, past accomplishments, and future perspectives of the Academy.

Revaz Asatiani the Deputy Minister of Agriculture,  Marina Nijharadze, Director of Tbilisi public school   # 31;  Prof. Giga Kvartskhava, Director of Scientific Center of Agrarian Sciences and Bio-systems Engineering, Technical University of Georgia.;  Levan Ujmajuridze, The Scientific –Research Center of Agriculture;  Vladimer Sukhishvili,  Rector of Euro-Regional Study University; Academician Vajha Kvaliashvili, Academician Guram Papunidze, Bondo Kalandadze, a winemaker; The speakers also delivered the Addresses with Official Greetings  to the President of GAAS.

After the Ceremonial meeting was over, the guests were shown the Museum of the Academy, newly renovated premises for the training courses and seminar halls, the library, the Stalls depicting the history and achievements of the Academy, also the publications, such as books, journals and brochures.

Visiting Chinese Scholars

During November 29 –December 4, 2017, in Jiangsu Province of China, a Scientific Conference in Agriculture, titled “Modern Agricultural- Industrial Innovation Forum “  was held.Chineti 1

About 1000 researchers from different parts of the world attended the Conference and presented their articles, the delegates were from: South Korea, Vietnam, Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Azerbaijan,    Georgia, Poland, Belarus, France, Holand, China and other countries.

The government of Jiangsu Province and its head took active part and maintained the success of the Conference. The President of GAAS, Acad. Guram Aleksidze delivered his article “Agro-biodiversity in Georgia”  twice;  First, Prof. Chineti 2Aleksidze presented the article at one of the conference sections “Science and Business”, which was attended by more than 200 conference participants, but later,  upon special request of the President of the Academy of China, Prof. Aleksidze delivered his article for the second time particularly for the members of the Academy of China;  this time, about 100  representatives of scientific research institutes of China attended the session.

Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences also participated in the Exhibition organized within the framework of the Conference and presented the data and photos on new wheat and triticale varieties. The posters which depicted the achievements of Georgian agriculture in different branches, such as mechanization, sericulture, veterinary, and processing industry presented at the exhibition raised wide interest among Chinese specialists and Conference participants.

Academician G. Aleksidze also gave an interview for local TV channel and spoke about China- Georgian relations, particularly in the field of agriculture. He also stated that the scientific relations between the Academies of China and Georgia which started with the methodical study of biological measures to fight against Asian pharosana, will be successfully continued in future.

Scientific Conference in Gori

Scientific Conference in Gori Dedicated to 60-year Jubilee of Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences

On November 28, 2017, at Gori Euro-Regional Study University a joint Scientific Conference was held together with the Academy of Agricultural Sciences on the following topic: “ Current Challenges of Agrarian Sector in Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti Regions and the Perspectives to Overcome them”.  Gori XI 1

The Conference was dedicated to 60-year Jubilee of Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The Memorandum of Cooperation between the two institutions was signed in which, among other forms of partnership, it envisages participation in conferences organized by either parties.   

The Academy of Agriculture was presented with a big delegation including the administration and academic departments of the Academy and the Academicians: Acad. E. Shapakidze, Dr. Giorgadze, Dr. M. Barvenashvili, Dr. R. Gori XI 2Lolishvili,  Academicians: N. Chkhartishvili, V. Kvaliashvili,  researchers from Scientific Research Center of Georgian Agriculture N. Kakabadze; Study University of Samtskhe-Javakheti Z. Tkebuchava, and others.

 From Euro-Regional University the rector V. Sukhishvili, and Vice Rector A. Lapachi, University staff members and the students took part in the conference.

 The Academy delivered a collection of scientific articles published for the anniversary of the Academy, also books published by the Academy: “Viticulture  and  Agro-technology”, and “ Modern technologies applied in Horticulture”. 

Scientific Conference in Kutaisi

Scientific Conference in Kutaisi dedicated to 60-year Jubilee of Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences

On November 22, a joint Conference of georgian Academy of Agricultural Academy and A. Tsereteli University of Kutaisi was held. The Conference topic was: Subtropical Agriculture and the Perspectives of its development”.

The Conference was dedicated to a 60-year Jubilee of Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and it was one of the Kutaisi 2017 1events envisaged by the schedule worked out by the academy for the jubilee. The Memorandum of Cooperation between the two institutions was signed in which, among other forms of partnership, it envisages participation in conferences organized by either parties.   

The Academy of Agricultural Sciences delegation included the administration and academic department members and the Academicians: Acad. E. Shapakidze, Dr. Giorgadze, Dr. M. Barvenashvili, Dr. R. Lolishvili,  Academicians: G. Kutaisi 2017 2Margvelashvili, R. Makharoblidze, J. Katsitadze, Z. Tsitishvili,  N. Baghaturia, T. Kurashvili, and R, Jabnidze.

From the Kutaisi University the following persons participated: Rector of the Univrsity, Prof. G. Ghavtadze, Head of the Rector Staff R. Kopaliani; Dean of Agrarian Faculty Prof. Q. Kintsurashvili, also the staff members of Agrarian faculty, master and doctorate students.

Kutaisi 2017 4 

The participants were shown the premises of the University, field laboratories, library, and sport facilities. In the testing plot, the visitors saw unique cultivars of subtropical cultures and the selection work is carried out by the staff of the Agrarian department of the University.

By the end of the Conference, the Academy delivered to the Rector of the University the Certificates for distinguished work carried out in the field of agriculture and also for the notable achievements in education and raising the future generation of agrarians and specialists in the field of agriculture.   

 

Conference in Ajara

On November 16, 2017, on the  initiative  of  GAAS and support of Ajara Ministry of Agriculture and State University, a joint Conference was held on the following topic: “ Ajara Agrarian Sector contemporary problems and the perspectives of future improvements.”Achara XI 2017 1

In the work of the Conference the following persons, the members of GAAS,  academicians and professors took part: G. Margvelashvili, R. Makharoblidze, E. Shapakidze, T. Kurashvili, V. Tsanava, G. Papunidze, and R, Jabnidze. Among Conference participants also were: Minister of Ajara Agriculture A. Meskhidze, Rector of Batumi State University Prof. Merab Khalvashi, Vice Rector of the same University Prof. N. During the Conference the participants raised many questions. Discourse was very interesting and dealt with  different aspects of agrarian science and Ajara agriculture. New directions in development of rational and sustainable projects were outlined.

The Conference congratulated the Academy of Agriculture with its 60-year jubilee and wished further success in scientific achievements as well as in all its versatile practical activities.
