Academician Givi Japaridze
Academician Givi Japaridze (born January 6, 1944) is one of Georgia's most distinguished scholars in agrarian economics, forestry sciences, and agricultural law. He currently serves as the President of the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS), a position he assumed in May 2023 following decades of service as the institution's Vice President. With a career spanning over 60 years, his dual expertise in science and law has deeply influenced modern Georgian agrarian and environmental policy.
Early Life and Academic Foundations
Givi Japaridze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, into a working-class family.
- Secondary Education: He graduated from Tbilisi Public School No. 61 in 1961.
- Forestry Engineering: He enrolled at the Georgian Agricultural Institute, graduating in 1968 from the Faculty of Forestry with a specialty in Forestry Engineering.
- Postgraduate Work: Between 1971 and 1975, he completed his postgraduate studies (aspirantura) at the Institute of Mountain Forestry of the Georgian Academy of Sciences.
- Legal Studies: Recognizing the need for legal structures in natural resource management, he pursued legal education at Tbilisi Javakhishvili State University, graduating as a Law Specialist in 1981.

- Early Professional Work (1966–1969): He initially served as the Director of the Vake District Student House, followed by organizational roles in the Komsomol (Orjonikidze district branch in Tbilisi).
- Rise in Academia: Over the next few decades, he advanced through Georgia's scientific institutions, earning his Doctor of Economics and the title of Professor.
- Academician Status: On February 18, 2000, he was elected as a Corresponding Member, and in 2002, he was officially elected as a Full Member (Academician) of the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

- Vice Presidency: For years, Japaridze worked alongside former President Guram Aleksidze as Vice President.
