Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences

November/December activities

Session of the Agro-Innovation Commission

     On December 1, 2021, a meeting of the Commission was held, at which the report read: “The Importance of Introducing Innovative Integrated Technologies : Challenges and Initiatives ”were presented by Gocha Tsopurashvili, Deputy Chairman of the Commission, and Nodar Mindiashvili, Doctor of Biology , Director of the Georgian Ltd. GAP).

The speakers noted that Georgia's agriculture is going through an important stage in the development of the sector, which on the one hand is related to the achievement of new strategic goals and objectives, and on the other hand to a deep and comprehensive economic agreement with the EU.

In recent years, the National Food Agency has taken many effective steps to control food safety, pesticides and agrochemicals, heavy metals and other contaminants.

All important areas of the field have been consistently controlled, although problems and challenges still exist; this is a natural phenomenon in the current situation.

The speakers came up with an initiative to lay an obligation on the state in this process, so that the government not only ensure monitoring and control, but also develop and implement full-fledged integrated technology maps to establish a modern traceability system.

It is noteworthy that failure to do so will lead to a sharp reduction in our country's export capacity, as the requirements in this direction are becoming stricter, we must assume that neglecting these problems will significantly hurt the country’s export.

Today, the challenge is fully realized and identified, therefore, there is a targeted program to be implemented in life, which should make it easier for the farming community to overcome the problem.

Events to be held:

• Agronomists training program;

• Creating agro-technological maps by crops;

• Establishment and strengthening of field associations;

• Introduction of the principles of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and dissemination of international standards;

• Traceability system and the essence and importance of record perfection;

• Preparation of export products and the importance of quality assurance, system-technological dissemination of maximum use of opportunities and modern mechanisms for identifying competitive advantages.

The members of the commission Nodar Khatiashvili, Omar Kacharava, Gela Javakhishvili, Zurab Loladze, Alexi Noniadze, Bidzina Imnadze, Omar Tedoradze, Academician Nugzar Baghaturia, the chairman of the commission Alexander Didebulidze took part in the discussion; They emphasized the urgency and informativeness of the presented material. A relevant resolution was adopted, which will be submitted to the Presidium of the Academy.
