International Day of Soil Protection at Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences

      On Dec. 5, 2016, at Georgian Academy of Agricultural  Sciences a scientific conference dedicated to International Day of Soil Protection was held. The heads of the scientific departments, academicians, invited guests, the staff of the Academy attended the conference.

The scientific conference was opened by Vice President of the Academy Acad. Givi Japaridze who spoke about the role of the soil protection in sustainable development of world agriculture and the safe future of the world population.niadag dge 1

The panel presentation was delivered by the academician Gogola Margvelashvili on the topic: “The Quiet Crisis of the Planet – the Risk of Food Shortage”.  Significant scientific papers were delivered by professors, Doctors of agricultural sciences R. Makharoblidze and T. Kruashvili; G. Gagoshidze and Z. Bukia. After the presentations a discussion was held between the conference participants.niadag dge 2 3

At the end of the event, The Vice President of the Academy Acad. Givi Japaridze thanked the participants for their interesting presentations, also delivered honorable Certificates to the scientists working in the field of soil protection many years who had made an important input into the development of the filed in Georgia. Those were the academicians, professors of the Academy: G. Margvelashvili, J. Oniani, V. Tsanava, Z. Chakseliani, T. Urushadze and to the representatives of Georgian Agrarian University.  

Information: Development of grant programs under the supervision of GAAS Members

       

       On November 22, 2016, a meeting with participation of GAAS Scientific Department of Agro- engineering was held which discussed the development and progress of the projects,  in which the members of the Academy were participating.

All projects are sponsored by the Shota Rustaveli National Fund, which once again testifies the significance of financial support extended by the Fund.         

      The meeting discussed the development of the following projects:grant 1

1. Project   FR/454/10-140/14  -  “Working out methodology for the definition of nomenclature and number of necessary technical devices based on energy expenditures during technological process in the regions of Georgia, according to the number of cultures and territory.” A fundamental study, the supervisor – Acad. Elguja Shapakidze, leading organization – Georgian Academy of Agricultural   Sciences;  

grant 22. Project  # FR/601/10-140/14– “Theoretical and experimental study and optimization to enhance reliability and energy saving capacity of Modern Agricultural technologies”.  Fundamental study, the supervisor – Acad. Jemal Katsitadze, leading organization – Georgian Academy of Agricultural   Sciences;  

      3. Project  # FR/217/10-140/13     - “Elaborating physical and mathematical  modeling of agricultural machines working on the slopes.”   Fundamental             study, the supervisor – Acad.Revaz Makharoblidze, leading organization – Georgian Agrarian University;  grant 3

In the discussion regarding the development process of the projects took place the members of scientific departments, the persons directly responsible for the projects and other personnel who helped the successful completion of the projects.  The participants expressed important ideas regarding particular stages of the project development.  Also, the role of the Fund, as the one who stimulates the scientific studies has been outlined. 

Round Table regarding the problems of Melioration

On November 16, 2016, Round Table on the problem: “The present state of melioration in Georgia and perspectives of its development.”  was held at the Academy. In the work of the Round Table, the members of GAAS, Academicians Elguja Shapakidze and R. Makharoblidze took part. Also, the secretary of the scientific department - Dr. M Barvenashvili, chief specialists, G. Mosashvili and leading specialist M. Mosashvili; Besides, National Coordinator of Agro engineering, Dr. I. Kruashvili, Professors Lobjanidze, Inashvili,( who delivered a speech) ,  and Bziava, D. Lortkipaanidze, and other invited guests  actively participated  in the discussion.   მრგვალი მაგიდა 16 2016 1

     The Round Table participants unanimously supported the idea of timely implementation of the measures outlined in the project and discussed on the meeting. It is necessary to prepare a short and long term projects and legislative basis for development of melioration which will significantly improve the existed situation on the field. 

 The participants discussed the ways to promote melioration through media programs, particularly, TV Company “Saperavi” who should invite in its rubrics “ The researchers visiting farmers” scientists working in the field to discuss publicly very urgent problms of melioration.

An International Day at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences

          An International Day for Peace and Development was initiated by UNESCO in 2001 and it has been annually celebrated in Georgia since then.   

         unnamed 1On   the 10th of November, 2016, International day was celebrated at the Academy, in which the real members, correspondent members and associated   academy members took place. Also, the doctors of sciences, doctoral students, as well as invited guests and Academy staff members took part in the event.               

        The celebration was opened by GAAS president, acad. G. Aleksidze who spoke about plant protection problem, and modern approaches to its management and resolution. 

        The Academicians G. Margvelashvili, G. Japaridze, T. Kurashvili, J. Gugushvili. J. Katsitadze, and I. Vasadze delivered speeches to addressed the problems of agrarian development, and particularly focusing on: soil protection and fertilizing, development of horticulture and veterinary, agro engineering, production of ecologically puree products, and working out new regulations to protect forest in Georgia. unnamed   

         The head of Academic Department, acad. E. Shapakidze informed the scientific society about  the decision of the GAAS on announcement of the contest which will award the best fundamental  research in applied  sciences  in Agriculture.    

        The 2016 premium will be awarded for the best fundamental work in agronomy, veterinary, food production, forestry, agribusiness management and agro engineering.                   

        The announcement was published on the web site of the Academy   (www.gaas.dsl.ge)  and the deadline for submission of the projects is December 30, 2016.

The 9th General Assembly of European Academies of Agricultural Sciences

On October 13, 2016, in Paris, at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which was founded in 1761, the 9th General Assembly of European Academies of Agricultural Sciences was held. The Assembly discussed the problem: ”Agrarian Science: Historical Aspects and Perspectives”. The participants were the specialists and researchers from different European countries, such as, France, Portugal,  Check Republic, Rumania, Italy,  England, Livonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Georgia and other.

 DSCN5991 The representative from Georgia was acad. G. Aleksidze. General Assembly was opened by the president of Check Academy, who talked about the activities which took place since the 8th Assembly in Prague and the Conference held in Kiev.

 The Assembly elected new President for 2017, also the members of Staring Committee and observant, the representative of which, together with France and Check rep., will also, be G. Aleksidze.

 The General assembly considered the presentations which dealt with climate change and its effect on forest ecosystem and food production in Britain. ( D. Gardner) Also, the problem of physical mutagens were discussed, which should find its place in the European regulations and the documentation will be prepared by French Academies of Agriculture and Technologies.

   The second Day was dedicated to the participants of Colloquium on which 10 presentations were discussed by the representatives of different EU countries.DSCN5995

The third day of the Assembly was dedicated to scientific tour to Champaign where the Assembly participants were acquainted with the bio technological methods of getting bio fuel with appliance of sugar beetroot, wheat and other plant materials; also the participants were given wonderful opportunity to observe technological process of Champaign wine production.  They visited the famous wine cellar “ Marteli” and tested the Champaign wines kept there.

 The 10th Session will be held in 2018 in Florence, Italy.
